Table of Contents.Tomtom upgrade free to Truck ModeThere are probably a lot of One XL owners around, as it’s a very popular GPS device, sold all around the word. Although it packs some years behind its back, it is still highly used thanks to its very good specs and permanently updated TomTom navigation software.Today we’ll show a way to convert TomTom XL into a truck-ready navigator, including the adequate maps. Basically, we will install a truck software from TomTom, along with the latest maps including heavy-vehicle restrictions. It might be a little difficult to tackle this situation since the navigator does not have an SD card slot and the internal memory is just 2GB.Below, we will list the steps on how to install the firmware and maps on a 64MB RAM TomTomXL – there are also 32MB RAM versions, but these will probably lag a lot when running the firmware. The amount of installed RAM can be checked in the Settings menu.If you think the method below is quite complicated, you should read our guide on.Before we proceed – instead of updating an old device, you might also consider buying a new TomTom Truck Navigation System with the latest maps and free updates. Such a device is this one:Tom Tom Trucker 600It has free truck maps update for life and you’ll get best routes for your vehicle type depending on size, weight, cargo and speed. It’s quite a cheap truck gps with an average price of 200 Usd. Backup TomTom XLThe first step is to do a backup of the original firmware, in case something goes wrong.
Connect the GPS to a computer and copy its entire contents on the hard drive. After the backup has successfully completed, you must erase the entire memory of the GPS.You may as well format the device, but be careful only to use FAT or FAT 32 file system. If you do however need points of interest, you can add them in OV2 format, which takes less space. You can download these from dedicated websites such as poiplaza.com.Thus, download or buy Europa Truck 925.5445 map (or newer, if you are reading this article a while after it has been written), then open the map’s folder using your computer.Delete the following folders and files: poi, crpoi, cspeech, cphoneme. After removing these files, the map should comfortably fit within the GPS internal memory. If, by any chance, it is still too large for the device, try using an older map (Europe Truck 915 or 910.xxx) – which will without a doubt fit after deleting the above-mentioned files.TomTom devices featuring an SD card slot will accompany the entire map without needing to remove a part from it.Once the map was shrunk, we will copy the folder to the GPS internal memory, now named Truck. It will take a while to copy all the files, as the file transfer speed towards the device is rather low.
Once the map has been copied, it’s time to activate it for use. If you’ve bought the map from official channels, you may skip this step. Otherwise, here’s how to do it. Activate Free Truck Map on TomTomDownload a truck map activator from the internet. The software is called Fast Activate, and you can download it from.Copy the executable file to the internal memory of the device. Now run the executable and a pop-up window will appear.Select Patch Maps, Voices. In a few seconds, a pop-up message will let you know that the map has been activated successfully. If the activation was successful, you may now check the new navcore and map in the Settings menu.
This is a copy of the Mazda NB1 SD card. It was updated on October 2015. It also includes an optional Chase Banking ATM POI which I did not remove from the SD card. You can use this file to create a new SD card for your navigation system if it was lost. We have the latest maps for every version of TomTom! Please check this video wit the latest maps! Thanks, and have a great day! LINK: https://www.youtube.
There you have it: a fully functional TomTom XL navigator with truck routing. You may add voices from the internet, or you can download the official TomTom Home software. You may use it to install a vocal guidance file.
Ok a friend of mine had a simular issue there are 2 thing you need to check1. On your pc open the folder that is the sd card ensure the files are in the root directory i.e dont have the files contained in another folder on the card.If you have all the main files and folders in the root of the card and it still doesn't work try this.2.
In folder options of the cards folder ensure the show hidden files option is checkedif you follow both these directions correctly you should be on your way to wherever you tell the tom tom you want to go. You have to have a back up of your Tomtom without the SD card in place.Hook it up to the PC (no SD card) and use windows to look at the file structure on the TomTOm. Make sure all hidden files are displayed too (tick options in file view). Then copy all these with their folders to a back up area on your PCAlternatively use TOtom home to do the backup. Then take tomtom off PC turn off, put in blank Sd card and turn on - nothing happens!
But hook it up to your PC anyway and the computer should now see it as removable media. Then copy all the previous files back to it. And after that it should boot up when you swith off, and then back on.Or else you just tell Tomtom home to 'restore' and you will ahve the same effect. Why the effing idiots at Tom tom can't tell people this is beyond me!Worked for me after much teeth grinding trying to figure out why the effing thing would not fire up!nzlittleman wrote:I have a new 4GB SD Card for my TomTom One. My name is Shellie and it is my goal to provide you with an exceptional customer experience. We are happy to explain how an SD card works in your ONE XL. The SD card must be a 2.0 GB standard card. You must download a map, an application and a voice on the card or you will get a red X. The unit will read either the SD card or the internal memory, not both.If you have any further questions or comments, please at +1 866 486-6866 Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 7:00 PM EST. Thanks again for writing. At TomTom we believe in showing you the way the easy way. With Best Regards,Shellie andQuote:Customer (Rick Cooper) 10:46 PMI want to ad an sd card to my system.
Following the instructions, I turn the device on and insert the sd card. The device reboots and when it turns on it displays an animation of the sd card being removed from the device with a red x on the icon.I've tried 3 different sd cards. I have verified they are not write protected. I am having problems with my Tom Tom, I have managed to update a new 2 GB SD card and have been able to use it, however, I am now having problems with the touch screen freezing. I have been in touch with Tom Tom and went through the instructions given to check the data on the card (took me 4 hours) as I was still having problems the unit was sent away for repair as they thought it was a hardware problem. The unit has been returned stating that there is nothing wrong with it but I still cannot get it to work. Does anyone else have the same problem and can anyone help before I launch it through the window.
